SCRC Community Support

SCRC Makes a Big Difference in 2007

In 2007, a Team of dedicated SCRC members donated both funding and labor to Habitat for Humanity, a non-profit organization that assists needy families by building homes and providing educational programs.

The Team put their muscles to work and spent a day assisting in the construction of two new homes for families in Fullerton, CA. The tasks included, but were not limited to, digging a trench for a gas line, installing siding, and laying down a cement tile roof. The volunteers enjoyed the privilege of working alongside one of the homeowners who was required by the program to provide 500 personal "sweat equity" hours.

The members appreciated the opportunity to make a difference in the community and gained an even greater respect for construction crews everywhere (as was apparent by the back and knee aches the morning after the build). In addition to all the labor provided by SCRC members, SCRC also donated to the local chapter of Habitat for Humanity.

... and it doesn't end there

Of course, SCRC also participates in charitable activities that do not require pure brawn. Between November 2006 and November 2007, SCRC raised over $1,900 through raffles and donations to purchase more than a whopping 500 20-minute calling cards to the U.S. military personnel serving in Iraq.

Serving in Iraq then, SCRC member and U.S. Marine Corps Colonel Bob Kelly, CRP, reported that the cards were well-received and very highly appreciated.

While he was serving there, SCRC sent Bob a card with a group photo from our meeting then, telling him how proud we all were and how much he was missed. We were all so very pleased to receive the following back from him:

and after continuing this successful Phone Card Program, we just got this one back from the troops in Fallujah:
