SCRC’s Involvement in Our Southern California Communities
For years, the Southern California Relocation Council has invested time, resources and money in our charities of choice, Habitat for Humanity and the Second Harvest Food Bank.
About Habitat for Humanity...
Habitat for Humanity is a quality organization dedicated to transform neighborhoods and change lives. Habitat builds and renovates homes in the local Orange County community using donated funding, labor, services, and materials. Service providers such as architects, contractors, landscapers, etc., all donate their time. The only funds that are supplied by the Government
is for the purchase of land.
Each Habitat low-income family that applies for the program is carefully screened and once accepted volunteers 500 hours of "sweat equity" to help build their own home or help build another family's home. The home is then purchased for a 1% down payment, closing costs and a long-term zero-interest mortgage.
Habitat is also involved in educating the families regarding home maintenance, finance, education, etc. Visit the Habitat for Humanity web site for additional information.
About Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County...
Many people believe that the problems associated with hunger are confined to small pockets of society or certain neighborhoods, but the reality is much different.
Even in “the land of abundance” here in Orange County, thousands of hard-working adults, children and seniors simply cannot make ends meet and are forced to go without food for several meals
, or even days. With sky-high rents, rising medical costs and unemployment, too many people have to make life-threatening choices.
For every dollar donated, Second Harvest can provide three meals, and 94.6 cents goes directly to feeding the hungry. Second Harvest also accepts food donations of canned food and fresh produce, and helps organizations like the Southern California Relocation Council hold food drives. Visit the Orange County Second Harvest web site for more information.
